E3 2013: AMD Breaks 5Ghz With Piledriver
AMD has revealed its new FX processors at E3 which has brokem past the 5Ghz barrier with the new AMD FX-9590 8-Core.
AMD release has stated the new chip packs eight cores using the ‘Piledriver’ design and will also be unlocked – great for overclockers wanting to push it. AMD has also released info on a FX-9370 chip which has a speed of 4.7Ghz Turbo.
“At E3 this week, AMD demonstrated why it is at the core of gaming,” said Bernd Lienhard, corporate vice president and general manager, Client Products Division at AMD. “The new FX 5 GHz processor is an emphatic performance statement to the most demanding gamers seeking ultra-high resolution experiences including AMD Eyefinity technology. This is another proud innovation for AMD in delivering the world’s first commercially available 5 GHz processor.”
The new CPUs will work on the current AM3+ platforms so if have a 990FX board, you’re set for an upgrade.
No word on the release date or pricing here in Australia but expect it over the next few months.
