Telltale’s Game of Thrones Images Apparently Leaked
Buckle in for some speculative reporting readers. Kotaku recently posted these images, supposedly of in game footage in the upcoming Telltale adventure game adaptation of the HBO television series version of Game of Thrones. They cited this Twitter account as the known source of the images, before it spread around to other publications and social networks.
So it’s obvious this was not intended as an official release of marketing assets by Telltale. Speculation that the images may be fake all together seems unlikely given the obvious visual consistency with other Telltale franchises like The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead.
We may never know the origins of this leak, but with the given information being a collection of images in a generally unfavourable state and low resolution, we can probably expect a different level of quality with the final product.
Seeing the television cast’s likeness and reportedly connected timeline suggests that the voice talent of the series’ principle actors may play a part in the final game.
More concerning than the leaked images is the vague deadline Telltale has set for itself. According to a Telltale representative, the first episode (“Iron From Ice”) out of six is due before the end of 2014; whereas other reports have simply stated it will be out “soon”. Additionally, this launch window is meant to include the release of the iOS, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions.
With the end of the year fast approaching, it will be important for Telltale to maintain its schedule with the episodes and their release dates. The game will apparently take place during the 3rd – 5th seasons of the show, making the synchronisation between the game and the Autumn 2015 start of the Season 5 potentially consequential for storytelling and marketing purposes.
There’s even more to learn about Telltale’s Game of Thrones adventure game in this recent post, detailing plot specifics among other details.
