WD 6TB Hard-Drive Review
When Size and Speed Matters
When solid-state drives don’t provide enough room for the right price, gamers often look at Western Digital’s Black Series hard-drives. They provide plenty of space and great performance without breaking the bank. Today, we have a look at their new and largest capacity in the Black series – the monstrous 6TB.
Games are getting bigger and mix it in with everyday tasks and things like video editing, you’re going to need lots of space. SSDs are coming down in price but nothing with a capacity like 6TB. The 6TB WD Black comes in at around $449 AUD market price and features a 5-year WD warranty.
There’s not much to talk about when it comes to an internal hard-drive apart from the actual performance and use so let’s jump straight into that. The cope with the large capacity, the hard-drive features dual processors for maximum performance and it shows in the numbers we pulled from running tests.
Using Crystal Diskmark, the drive scored the following:
Sequential Read: 222.0MB/s
Sequential Write: 222.5MB/s
This is quite impressive numbers for a hard-drive and while not solid-state fast, capacity is key with the 6TB WD Black. It’s even faster than my current 2TB WD Black which sits roughly around 136MB/s Write which is an incredible jump.
Not only has WD upgraded the size of their WD Black range, they’ve pushed the performance even further. SSD’s are roughly double the speed but also expensive when you compare sizes. If you’re looking for performance and plenty of space, the 6TB WD Black is an excellent choice for those seeking the best of both worlds.
