Riot Games bans G2A Team Sponsorships
Riot Games requested G2A sponsored teams to remove the branding after the company was banned from sponsoring professional League of Legends teams at the 2015 World Championships.
In a report by The Daily Dot, the company has confirmed the following:
J. “Riot Sargonas” Eckert said the company was formally banned on Sept. 18 and that Riot has “no plans to reconsider the decision at this time.” Reddit Link.
This is big news considering G2A sponsors some high-profile teams such as Cloud9 and Counter Logic Gaming. The reason behind the ban is because G2A allows the resells of digital products such as CD keys, while this is legal and almost legit – the company allows the reselling of League of Legends accounts which goes against Riot’s terms of service.
