Watch to Watch: Fall 2015 Season Anime Top Picks
After the Summer season started off strong but fizzled out into nothing, we could all use a strong anime boost. Luckily, it’s been a week since the start of the Fall 2015 anime season started, so let’s take a look at what is on offer and what is worth your time! Here’s my Top Picks of the shows to look out for:
Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Mecha
Story: After a dispute between his classmates, Sogo wanders deep into the ruins of a mine and discovers an underground lake. There, he meets a mysterious blue-haired girl with red eyes named Felia and their fateful meeting is the start of a new adventure with their newly formed bond.
Thoughts: Right off the bat, Comet Lucifer reminds me of a less-serious Code Geass. The series didn’t give up much in the first episodes, but I think there’s potential here.
Dance with Devils
Studio: Brains Base
Genre: Demons, Romance, Shoujo, Supernatural
Story: Rikka Tachibana is a female second-year high school student who attends Shiko Academy in Shiko Town and is loved by and is attracted to devils.
Thoughts: It’s your typical Shoujo story, with multiple male characters fighting over the love of Rikka, but they are devils. If you’re a fan of Diabolik Lovers, then Dance with Devils is right up your alley.
One Punch Man
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Seinen, Super Power, Supernatural
Story: Revolves around the titular super hero who has trained so hard that his hair has fallen out, and who can overcome any enemy with one punch. However, because he is so strong, he has become bored and frustrated with winning all his battles so easily.
Thoughts: With Kill la Kill style fight-animations, it’s hard to not enjoy One Punch Man’s action. The balance between the action and comedy keeps things well paced. My only concern is how long will the “one punch” concept remain enjoyable.
Genre: Mystery, Supernatural
Source: Light Novel
Story: Next instalment of the Monogatari Series. The anime will cover the “Ougi Formula,” “Sodachi Riddle,” and “Sodachi Lost” chapters from the first novel, as well as the “Shinobu Mail” chapter from the second novel.
Thoughts: If you’ve watched any of the Monogatari series so far, here’s the next saga. Otherwise, you’ve got a lot of catching up to do. If you’re looking for a very thought-provoking series with a unique story and cast, check out the Monogatari series.
Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru // Beautiful Bones -Sakurako’s Investigation
Source: Light Novel
Story: Shoutarou Tatewaki, a high schooler living in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, meets Sakurako Kujou, a bone-loving young lady who has an ability to analyse specimen. The two live in the city of Asahikawa in Hokkaido, and they get involved in various incidents regarding bones.
Thought: If murder mysters is your jam, this is a perfect series for you. Sakurako Kujou is essentially Sherlock Holmes… if Sherlock was a japanese female in an anime…
Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou // Attack on Titan: Junior High
Studio: Production I.G
Genre: Comedy, Parody, School, Shounen
Story: The school comedy story is set in a junior high school and centers on the original manga’s characters such as Eren and Mikasa as they battle with Titans. The spin-off incorporates gags while using Shingeki no Kyojin’s story and notable scenes as its basis.
Thoughts: While it’s not the second season of Shingeki no Kyojin that we’re all waiting for, it’s fun seeing our favourite scenes reimagined in a humorous setting. Although if you haven’t seen the original series, you won’t be able to fully appreciate this parody.
