ESL has revealed they’re launching a 24/7 esports TV channel in May called (you wouldn’t have guessed it) esportsTV.
This was somewhat expected as MTG, a multimedia production company based in Sweden owns 74% of Turtle Entertainment that runs ESL. So far the channel will be broadcast to their own ViaSat but have announced talks with other providers globally.
“This is fantastic because it will bring esports to an even broader global audience. Esports is a global sport played all year round so there is so much content to share. The channel is all about building awareness and growing the gaming community and fanbase. We have seen an explosion of interest in esports and we want to make more and more content available on as many screens as possible.” – Arnd Benninghoff, CEO of MTGx, and Peter Nørrelund, CEO of MTG Sport
We’ve seen a few local esports events such as the Crown Casino CSGO Invitational which was broadcast to Foxtel live here in Australia but with a push for more TV action rather than online streaming, we hopefully see a wider scope of audience become involved.
