NVIDIA announced the GTX 1080 and 1070 over the weekend but what got everyone talking was the $100 extra Founder’s Edition version. Forget the rumours of a higher binned chip or special overclocks – the Founder’s Edition is nothing more than a new name for the reference model.

NVIDIA wants to push their own design on the market where most partner companies like ASUS and MSI take the chip and create their own version. NVIDIA wants to move away from the OEM branding and retain themselves in the market space after launch so the Founder’s Edition is their first step.

So if you’ve ever wanted a NVIDIA GeForce card not touched by partner companies coming straight from NVIDIA itself built to their standards – then the Founder’s Edition is probably something you might want to consider.
