We’re about to enter the League Play stages of the Rocket League OCE Championship, and there’s no better time to get stuck into watching some of the best Rocket League sides in Oceania compete in the biggest competition in the region.

The OCE Championship is officially part of the road to the Rocket League Championship Series, which pits the ten best Rocket League teams in the world against one another for a share of $250,000 USD.

As for the OCE Championship, the top eight teams in the region will be competing for a share of $25,000 USD alongside two qualifying spots for the aforementioned competition, RLCS. Here’s the format for the competition, as well as team rosters and the schedule for League Play.

Open Qualifier
We’ve already passed the Open Qualifier stage, which allowed any team across the region to enter with the chance to compete and earn their spot in the Top 16 Qualifier. Players competed in best of 5 rounds in a double elimination bracket, with the top teams qualifying for the next round of the competition.

Top 16 Qualifier
Much like the Open Qualifier, we’ve already passed the Top 16 Qualifier stage as well. Games were best of 5 in a double elimination bracket, with the top six sides qualifying for League Play.

League Play
We’re about to begin League Play for the OCE Championship, which is played over five weekends in a round robin-styled format. At the conclusion of League Play, the top two sides overall will automatically qualify for the OCE Championship finals, whereas 3rd to 6th will enter the Top 6 Playoffs for another chance at the finals and 7th and 8th will be eliminated from the competition.

Top 6 Playoffs
A new part of the OCE Championship in 2018, the Top 6 Playoffs stage will give teams coming 3rd to 6th in League Play another crack at getting into the finals. Series will be best of 7, with third taking on fourth to enter the finals as third seed, while the loser of that series takes on the winner of the fifth and sixth match to enter as fourth seed.

OCE Championship Finals
Following on from two months of intense competition, the top four teams will play another double elimination bracket to try and nab first or second in the competition and stamp their ticket to RLCS overseas — earning a solid share of that $25,000 USD prize pool in the process.

What to Expect

Seven of these sides competed in the OCE Open Series a few weeks ago and if that was anything to go off you can expect a cracking OCE Championship, with upsets coming regularly. Similarly, lots of great goals were scored throughout the comp, and it was rare to see one-sided series (barring the grand final between Chiefs and Dark Sided). I’m reserving my predictions until the first week of competition has finished, but I’m expecting a great couple of months of competition from these sides.

You can catch all of the League Play action from 11am AEDT on Sunday via Throwdown Esports’ Twitch channel.
