Riot is kicking off the very first Oceanic Pro League for their MOBA, League of Legends, tonight. Eight teams will battle it out over seven weeks for their chance to win a share of $64000, as well as the chance to compete in the International Wildcard or the World Championship.

This is the first professional esport league to be started in Oceania, which is quite an exciting development.

“We have some amazing talent in this region and they are only going to get better in a professional league,” explains Daniel Ringland, esports manager, Riot Games Oceania.

“Our ultimate goal is to see an Oceanic team win at Worlds,” adds Ben de Rider, esports Co-ordinator, Riot Games Oceania. “We’re not on the same level as some of the larger regions yet, but you should never underestimate a bunch of Aussies and Kiwis.”

You can check out all the action from 6pm AEDT on the Riot Oceanic Twitch page.
