Two For One
It’s hardly surprising to see yet another title being remastered (or in this case re-released on the current generation platforms). When 2K first announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, people were scratching their heads as to why they would only publish it on the last generation of consoles when the Xbox One and PS4 had already been out in the market for nearly a year. With my previous consoles already shelved, I wasn’t prepared to play it and I’m pretty sure not many others were as well. This is probably why the Handsome Collection was created.
Within the Handsome Collection, you get two games – Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on a single Blu-Ray disc plus every piece of DLC that came out for both games. All of the packs, campaign add-ons, skins and future content for the Pre-Sequel are included in the package. Usually I don’t comment on the price of the games I review but it’s quite an immense amount of content for the price of one game.
Somewhat cleverly bundled together, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place prior to Borderlands 2 so players can continue their adventure into the second game straight away. The Pre-Sequel delivers quite a different take on the original Borderlands formula, introducing an added layer of risk with its oxygen system and low gravity thanks to it taking place on the Moon. We’ve covered this in our original review but it really makes the franchise more chaotic as you jump from platform to platform and delivering your foe that blow that sends their bits and pieces flying. It really suits the mayhem of this series.
For most, (whom avoided the game when it was released on the last generation of consoles) The Pre-Sequel will probably be the most interesting to play in this package with Borderlands 2 serving as a (remastered) classic. If you haven’t played Borderlands 2 before, then you’re getting quite the deal here.
The jump to the current-gen platforms is visually impressive, even though the game is really just colourful cell-shaded graphics. It’s sharper, providing a smooth frame-rate however I did occasionally notice frame drops when a lot of enemies piled up on screen. Overall, it’s a great package pushing visuals almost on par to what I’ve played it on PC.
Borderlands The Handsome Collection is a brilliant bundle packed with lots (and I mean lots) of content whether you’re a new player or someone returning to the series.
