Overnight, Insomniac Games released the first gameplay trailer for Ratchet & Clank on PS4, giving the game a release window of Spring 2016 (Autumn for Australia) which has it coincide with the series’ movie release as well.
Posted on the US PlayStation Blog, Insomniac Games’ Community Lead James Stevenson went in to detail about what Ratchet & Clank PS4 is all about, also confirming that the first incarnation of Ratchet on PS4 is not an up-res of the original from the PS2 era, toting it as a re-imagining instead.
“We envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 games while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games.” Stevenson said in the blog post. “We ended with a new game, with elements based on the original – but now with modern controls, several new planets, new and updated gameplay segments, all-new Clank gameplay, all new boss fights, new flight sequences, and more… All constructed to take advantage of the graphical prowess of PS4.”
He also went on to describe the new weapons featured in the PS4 incarnation of Ratchet & Clank – “the fresh start means we changed up the arsenal quite a bit as well. As always with Ratchet & Clank games, you battle your enemies with an out-of-this-world arsenal. In the PS4 version of Ratchet & Clank, the majority of the arsenal is made up of weapons that weren’t in the original game. That means both new weapons and fan-favorite tools of destruction from the Ratchet & Clank Future series will fill out Ratchet’s kit.”
To cap it off, those who pre-order Ratchet & Clank on PS4 will have access to a weapon from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando – The Bouncer. A fan-favorite weapon that launches a bomb that releases a plethora of tiny homing bombs that bounce towards targets. Quite useful, indeed.
Ratchet & Clank’s debut on PS4 is coming in Spring 2016 (Autumn, again, for Australia), and will coincide with the film’s release.
