Sydney FC continued their dominance in what was a great round of FIFA 18 E-League action. We were treated to upsets, a few goal-heavy encounters, and some good banter this time around — here’s everything that went down.

Xbox One Division

Match 1: Perth Glory’s David Cook (HighFly357) vs Sydney FC’s Samer Elbadar (Samer96_)
Result: 0-2

A cagey opening match saw Sydney FC’s Samer96_ prove to be too good for Perth Glory’s HighFly357, dominating the possession and creating the lion’s share of chances throughout the game. Two goals in the second half effectively sealed the win for the big man, killing off any chance of a resurgence from the high-scoring HighFly357 late in the contest.

Key Moment: A second goal in the 61st minute from Sydney FC’s Samer96_ killed off any chance of a comeback for Glory’s HighFly357.

Match 2: Adelaide United’s Jamie O’Doherty (FUTWIZ Jamie) vs Wellington Phoenix’s Justin Josevski (Justmanutd12)
Result: 3-3

What a cracking game! Adelaide’s FUTWIZ Jamie and Phoenix’s Justmanutd12 produced one of the best games of the night, with goals on the menu for the entirety of the second half. It looked like the Phoenix man was going to win with just moments to go, though Adelaide’s FUTWIZ Jamie managed to equalise with almost no time remaining.

Key Moment: FUTWIZ Jamie’s late strike managed to keep the sides level, ending in a 3-3 draw.

Match 3: Brisbane Roar’s James Williams (iCripsy) vs Central Coast Mariners’ Matthew Camilleri (StrawHat Camels)
Result: 0-1

Wow! Central Coast Mariners’ StrawHat Camels produced a really solid display against Brisbane Roar’s Cripsy in this contest, relying on David De Gea to save him from some really tough situations. Cripsy had the lion’s share of shots, as well as possession, but a goal in the 24th minute was enough to seperate the players.

Key Moment: A great goal from Central Coast’s StrawHat Camels in the 24th minute proved the difference between the two players.

Match 4: Melbourne Victory’s Moaud Zwed (MuadZwed) vs Western Sydney Wanderers’ Joseph Nassar (OhNoAGoat)
Result: 2-1

Victory’s MuadZwed is on the of run of a lifetime! Having played both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One legs last week — and showing promise across both consoles, nabbing a draw for his team — he was tasked with the same thing this week. Coming up against Wanderers’ undefeated OhNoAGoat, was a daunting task on his least preferred console, and while he copped a lot of pressure from the Goat, he scored a cracking goal in the 90th minute to claim a huge, huge win for his side — well in!

Key Moment: A massive volley in the 90th minute sealed the win for Melbourne Victory’s MuadZwed, ending the game 2-1.

Match 5: Newcastle Jets’ Dane Crow (Bossierhickory8) vs Melbourne City’s Marcus Gomes
Result: 2-3

A really entertaining contest pitted one of the competition’s best players in Marcus Gomes up against Newcastle Jets’ Bossierhickory8, who has been out of form of late. It looked like easy sailing for Marcus Gomes when he opened up the scoring in the 37th minute, though some quick-fire strikes in the second half made it interesting for both players. In the end, though, Gomes managed to go up 3-1 in the 77th minute and looked to close out the game. And even with a Bossierhickory8 goal coming in the 90th minute, he didn’t have enough time to pressure for an equaliser.

Key Moment: Marcus Gomes’ third goal in the 77th minute was enough to finish off the contest against Jets’ Bossierhickory8.

PlayStation 4 Division

Match 6: Perth Glory’s Peter Saisanas (Saisanas) vs Sydney FC’s Mark Brijeski (xMarkoHD)
Result: 1-3

With a trip to Manchester looming, it looks like Sydney FC’s xMarkoHD will end the regular E-League season as the only player to have won all of his games — and deservedly so. While a goal in the 10th minute for Sydney FC’s talisman looked to begin another trouncing, Perth Glory’s Saisanas responded well with a sweet 20th minute strike. However, xMarkoHD recomposed himself and saw out the match, scoring two more times — once in the 32nd minute and another in the 65th — to take the victory for the Sky Blues.

Key Moment: A third goal in the 65th minute was too much for Glory’s Saisanas, cementing another win for Sydney FC’s xMarkoHD.

Final Result: Sydney FC win 5-1 on aggregate.

Match 7: Adelaide United’s Zachary May-Burgess (vDreamz-Shooter) vs Wellington Phoenix’s Christian Bartolillo (Fweshest)
Result: 2-3

Where has this performance been from Phoenix’s Fweshest! After a wonderful 3-3 draw between the two Adelaide and Phoenix competitors on the Xbox One side of things, both vDreamz and Fweshest went at it from the get-go, scoring a goal each within the first six in-game minutes. A penalty in the 20th minute put Adelaide’s vDreamz up 2-1, only for him to be pegged back at the start of the second half to even the tide. In the 65th the game was decided with an excellent Fweshest goal, and that was that! A big, big result for both the Phoenix and Fweshest.

Key Moment: A third goal for Wellington Phoenix’s Fweshest earned him a huge victory, alongside a surprise win against Adelaide United.

Final Result: Wellington Phoenix win 6-5 on aggregate.

Match 8: Brisbane Roar’s Dino Flocco (Ol_Mate_) vs Central Coast Mariners’ Kiran Gupta (KyrenFIFA)
Result: 0-1

Roar’s Ol_Mate_ put on a hell of a fight against Central Coast’s KyrenFIFA this week, though an 88th minute goal was enough to seperate the two and pull the rug out from underneath what was a solid performance from the Roar man. It was cagey, though KyrenFIFA deserved the win in the end.

Key Moment: An 88th minute goal for Central Coast Mariners’ King Gupta was enough to seperate what was a very cagey game against two well-matched opponents.

Final Result: Central Coast Mariners win 2-0 on aggregate.

Match 9: Melbourne Victory’s Moaud Zwed (MuadZwed) vs Western Sydney Wanderers’ Rick Tran (RDOUBLETTT)
Result: 1-3

Melbourne Victory’s MuadZwed just couldn’t get the win here, though his effort once again was top notch, filling in for teammate Mitch Austin for the second round running. Western Sydney Wanderers’ RDOUBLETTT had some work to do after Mo had won 2-1 against OhNoAGoat, and it took an 85th minute goal to seperate the aggregate score, and give the Red & Black a big aggregate win.

Key Moment: An 85th minute goal was enough to separate the sides, with Western Sydney Wanderers’ RDOUBLETTT earning an aggregate win for his team in the process.

Final Result: Western Sydney Wanderers win 4-3 on aggregate.

Match 10: Newcastle Jets’ Bohdan Ling (BLFifa) vs Melbourne City’s Josh Wood (joshingwood)
Result: 1-2

A 72nd minute strike from Melbourne City’s joshingwood proved to be enough to derail any of the momentum Newcastle Jets’ BLFifa had throughout an entertaining contest, ending at 2-1. Jets’ BLFifa started the better of the two players, scoring in the 14th minute to open things right up in terms of the aggregate scoreline. However, just before half time joshingwood scored a good goal to equalise, and from there the Melbourne City man was on the way up. He capitalised on some solid attacking work by scoring in the 72nd minute, giving his side the win on aggregate.

Key Moment: A great goal in the 72nd minute saw Melbourne City’s joshingwood solidify his side’s aggregate win against the Newcastle Jets.

Final Result: Melbourne City win 5-3 on aggregate.

Goal of the Round: Newcastle Jets’ Dane Crow (Bossierhickory8) – Gareth Bale

A 63rd minute peach of a volley takes goal of the round this week, as Jets’ Bossierhickory8 used Gareth Bale to perfection to level the scoring against Melbourne City’s Marcus Gomes. What a hit!

Player of the Round: Wellington Phoenix’s Fweshest

It’s been a hard E-League season for Wellington Phoenix’s Fweshest, and after his teammate Justmanutd12 earned a draw against FUTWIZ Jamie earlier in the night the pressure was on the Phoenix man to get the result. And that’s exactly what he did, starting off well and managing to overcome going down a goal, Fweshest didn’t let his head drop and played an exceptional game of FIFA to win 3-2 against a very good opponent in Adelaide’s vDreamz-Shooter. Well played!

Game of the Round: Adelaide United’s Jamie O’Doherty (FUTWIZ Jamie) vs Wellington Phoenix’s Justin Josevski (Justmanutd12)

With just moments remaining, and with Wellington Phoenix’s Justmanutd12 up 3-2, Adelaide’s FUTWIZ Jamie produced a masterstroke of a goal to bring what was one of the most entertaining matches of the season to a close — ending in a 3-3 draw. This match had a fantastic sense of balance to it, with both players feeling each other out and playing to each others’ weakness. A 3-3 draw was well deserved, and this was a fantastic match to watch!

Final Thoughts
Another great week with a handful of upsets! With two rounds left, it’s very likely Sydney FC or Central Coast will claim the trophy as E-League Premiers, though it’ll be interesting to see how the trailing pack will go. The finals are going to be very interesting to watch!
