What a busy weekend for local esports as the major events from ESL Australia has finished after an intensive online season. We also saw the first Rainbow Six: Siege offline LAN event take place in Sydney for $5,000 and bragging rights before the APAC Pro League kicks off. On the League of Legends side, the OPL is almost at a close with week nine ending and the gauntlet run beginning this weekend.

Rainbow Six: ANZ Invitational

The very first Rainbow Six Siege offline LAN event in ANZ happened over the weekend as two of the best teams from the Open Qualifiers faced off each other at ESL Studios in Sydney, Australia. Corvidae were hot favourites coming from the open qualifiers however both sides have yet to play on stage so it was pretty much anyone’s game. Athletico have been pretty consistent during the open qualifiers and it was pretty much down to the wire with the series going all the way to map 5 in the best of five.

ESL ANZ Championship – 2017 Season 2 Final (CS:GO)

It was another busy week for Counter-Strike as the finals for the ESL ANZ Championship – 2017 Season 2 took place at ESL Studios in Sydney, Australia. Kings Gaming Club whom has been somewhat dominant in the scene since launch winning the Unikrn Australian Showdown took another win in their very first ESL ANZ Championship. Seeding first from online, the team faced Avant Garde in the grand final who defeated Legacy Esports 2-1 in the semis. The series was pretty tight as both teams fought it out all the way till map 5 with Kings Gaming Club inching out with a victory.

ESL ANZ Championship – 2017 Season 2 Final (Rocket League)

In the Rocket League segment of the ESL ANZ Championship, we saw the new Chiefs Esports Club squad who was formerly known as Alpha Sydney take out the victory. The roster who has plenty of experience especially overseas competing in the Rocket League Championship Series Season 2 World Championships in LA. The roster faced off Pale Horse Esports who defeated JAM Gaming winning the series 4-1.

 LoL OPL Week Nine – Straight to the Gauntlet

The game to watch in the League of Legends OPL Week 9 weekend was the reigning champions Dire Wolves v Chiefs match as both teams fought for a position on the top. Dire Wolves closed out the series against the veterans in a 2-1 victory sending the Chiefs to the gauntlet this weekend. In the other matches, we saw Sin Gaming taking out Legacy Esports 2-1, Regicide winning their series over Abyss and Avant beating TM Gaming 2-1.
