Alisports, part of the Alibaba Group has partnered up with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to bring esports to the 2022 Asian Games as an official medal event. This move into Asian Games was followed after Alisports massive investment of $14.5m to launch the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) – one of the highest paying esports tournaments in the world.

“We look forward to further collaboration with Alisports on digital sports concepts along with sporting events,” said Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Sabah, president, OCA.

Alisports founder and CEO Mr. Zhang Dazhong said: “I would like to thank the Olympic Council of Asia for their faith in Alisports. Together we will work on providing the sponsors of the Asian Games with more opportunities and maximising the market value, so that the OCA enjoys optimum benefits and advantages.”

The OCA will demonstrate esports at the 5th AIMAG this September which includes FIFA 2017 and two other titles (MOBA & RTS) as well at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia next year.
