AMD has revealed their new graphics architecture called Polaris based on a 14nm FinFET process. If you don’t know what the fuss is about, the new graphics architecture will bring massive improvements in power consumption which will potentially see faster graphics in thinner form factors like laptops.
The company has released a video showcasing some AMD’s team talking about the technology advancements and a comparison using Star Wars Battlefront.
Polaris is due in the 2nd quarter of this year; however NVIDIA are yet to reveal their plans for this space which is called ‘Pascal’ promising smaller, faster and energy efficient graphics due early this year as well. AMD really needs to make a significant jump with Polaris if they want to compete with NVIDIA as they’re a step behind.
