The Ninja Awards return, this time looking into the increasingly popular world of television. Not only has the television industry flourished in recent times by taking on a more cinematic and film-esque approach, but 2014 has said goodbye to beloved shows and welcomed in new champions of the living room. Here are our top picks for best new TV Show of the year.
Winner – Gotham
To say that Gotham had pressure on top of its shoulders when it was announced could be the understatement of the year. Taking an approach similar to that of Smallville, Gotham depicts the story of a young James Gordon and tells the story of his rise to Commissioner, all the while showcasing the origins of some of Gotham’s most well-known villains and Gotham’s caped crusader.
Most of the team have been invested in the show from the get-go, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for Gordon, young Bruce Wayne and the crew.
2nd Place – True Detective
HBO’s True Detective is an anthology series created by Nic Pizzolatto that boasts a handful of A-list actors and wraps them in the disturbing tale of a murder mystery. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey star in one of the most successful tv shows to show its face this year, and gives its upcoming second season a difficult task of trying to outdo the first.
True Detective is one of the finest, cinematic, and grueling experiences to date on television.
3rd Place – The Flash
Much like Gotham, the television adaptation of The Flash has (and had) a lot of weight hanging on its shoulders. The Flash is one of the most well known superheroes and a true representation of the whiz was what fans were craving for. Luckily, they got just that, and the future looks bright for the red and yellow.
