Hi-Rez is back at it again. After recently launching the open beta for their free to play hero shooter Paladins, the developers have today announced their newest game, SMITE Tactics. Set in the established world of their third person MOBA SMITE, this new title sees players face off 1v1 against humans competitively and AI, all with the gods, pantheons and abilities long time fans are acquainted with.

After its birth on pen and paper as a board game, SMITE tactics has evolved into a full blown title for Hi-Rez. Players will deploy minions on a field overseen by a specific god in what seems like a mix of hearthstone and XCOM. Incorporating aspects of deck building and chess like strategy, Tactics looks to scratch that itch for investment in the SMITE universe outside of the normal MOBA setting.

“We’ve always wanted to expand the SMITE universe,” said Scott Lussier, Lead Designer on SMITE Tactics. “SMITE has millions of fans worldwide, and with SMITE Tactics, players will get to experience mythological warfare from a whole new perspective, overseeing battles as their favourite gods and goddesses while wielding their signature abilities.”

SMITE Tactics is built in Unreal Engine 4, playable with both a mouse and keyboard or controller. Testing will begin towards the end of this year, with closed beta sign ups open from now at smitetactics.com.
