North America’s premiere competitive gaming tournament host Major League Gaming has announced that they will be taking the reigns of the first ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major Championship event in NA.
To be held alongside MLG Columbus, 16 world-class teams will compete over 4 days in the group stages and quarterfinals. MLG will also be hosting a “one-of-a-kind” viewing party in the the nearby Arena District.
Once the semi-finals begin, the action will head over to the Nationwide Arena – normally home to the NHL Blue Jackets – and thousands of eSports fans will converge to check out what no-doubt will be some spectacular CSGO matches.
“For our first CS:GO event we brought the competition to the Aspen X Games,” said Adam Apicella, MLG’s Exec VP said on the official MLG news release “We wanted to bring the game back to North American fans in a big way, and hosting a Major in front of thousands of spectators at Nationwide Arena is an exciting way to do that.”
With the CSGO scene rising rapidly through the 2014 and 2015 eSports seasons, this is a massive boon for MLG, but also for the North American CSGO eSports scene. While there are various large-scale events hosted in NA each year with a lot of competitions in the CSGO community, having another large-scale, $250,000 prize pool event will no doubt spurn a lot of excitement and spirit in the local scene.
