EA’s Patrick Söderlund has squashed any hopes from Mass Effect fans that a remastered trilogy for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is in the works, saying that EA are focused on bringing new experiences through instead of old ones.
“I won’t lie and say we haven’t looked at it. But for us, it’s about weighing where we spend our resources. Is it better for them to be working on a completely new IP, which you know Bioware is, or should they be remastering a Mass Effect?”
“I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I go back and play a game, you want the memory of what they were at that point in time when you played them. If I go back and play the old games, I think, ‘Really?!’ Was that was it was? Because in my mind it was amazing.”
It’s worth mentioning that EA are yet to enter the remastered space, and it’s a respectable stance to have even considering the vast collection of IP they could ship out on disc for fans to play through again if they wanted to.
Mass Effect: Andromeda was unveiled at EA’s annual E3 press conference earlier this week, it’s slated for a Holiday 2016 release and will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. All of the details and a trailer on that here.
