Announced at Oculus Connect, the company has revealed that they’ve lowered the minimum specifications for the Oculus Rift thanks to “asynchronous spacewarp” technology. Oculus says that a combination of a Core-i3 processor and GTX 960 is enough to handle the Rift rather than the GTX 970 and i5 which was the minimum before.

The new minimum specifications are as follows:

  • Nvidia 960 or greater
  • Intel i3-6100 / AMD FX4350 or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 1x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0
  • Windows 8 or newer

The new technology has been built into the Oculus API inserting synthetic frames to fill in frame rate gaps for PCs that can’t handle the performance demands. The game can run at half the frame rate and look nearly as good as native 90Hz rendering. This allows Oculus to drop the minimum specs for the Rift.

Oculus has also revealed the Touch Controllers which you can check out here coming this December.
