Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision-Blizzard has confirmed that an official Overwatch League is coming. In an interview with The Street about the future of VR and esports, Bobby explained the company is working on a league with the same mindset of professional sports leagues.
“What we’re doing is creating professional content. So we’re organizing around teams and leagues. You will have the Overwatch League which will have a certain number of teams. Those teams will be a combination of professional sports teams as owners and endemic sports teams as owners”
Blizzard has never actually revealed any esport plans nor hosted any official leagues but things are looking to change. With Blizzcon around the corner, we expect full details on this league and more then.
