A guide to all of the biggest video games, movies, and TV premieres coming in February.
February’s here, and with a new month comes a mass of new releases in entertainment. There’s so much here to get excited about. The TV releases have dried up, but there are still some really interesting premieres to check out, with The Walking Dead also returning this month and Deadpool coming to mark the first R18+ Marvel movie to launch so far. There’s also the release of Campo Santo’s hugely-anticipated title Firewatch, and the return of XCOM. Damn, February’s looking fantastic.
Video Game Release Schedule
Campo Santo’s first person adventure game is set in the Wyoming wilderness, as you take control of Henry – a lone fire lookout. There’s no one else in this wilderness, and your only connection with the world is the person at the other end of your handheld radio.
The game picks up as something out of the ordinary draws you out of the lookout tower you’re stationed in, and it’s up to you to find out what it is. There’s a lot of exploration to be had, and the game’s said to force you into making interpersonal choices that can build or break the only contact you have with the outside world. I’ve been looking forward to this one for quite some time, and it’ll be out on February 9 on PlayStation 4 and PC.
Many PC and Xbox One players may know of Layers of Fear. Bloober Team’s psychedelic horror experience is a truly terrifying exploration game that continues to mess with your insanity.
In the game, you take the role of a painter as you help create his next project. Unfortunately, this particular painter is going insane as he begins to see things, hear voices, and divulges into his own insanity. I played this one back on the Xbox One last year, and it’s scary as all heck. I’d absolutely recommend it wholeheartedly to fans of Alien: Isolation and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Layers of Fear is quite reliant on jump scares, but it also nails tension building which is huge for a game of this nature. Seriously, horror fans – grab this one on PlayStation 4 this month.

Movie Release Schedule
This one was a pretty easy pick. I’ve been fairly burnt out on the second phase of Marvel movies (Ant-man and Ultron were particularly hard to watch), but I’m coming around to this year’s selection. And this one, amongst the others, stands out as something that’ll be a little different to Marvel’s well known and well criticized formula.
Ryan Reynolds picks up the role of Deadpool, and he’s basically out to kick some ass. Do I need to talk more about this one? It’s R18+, has lots of swearing, and a lot of gore. It’s different for Marvel and I’d like to see them continue on with this (if the movie’s any good, of course).
The Coen Brothers have done some incredible films, most notably Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and No Country for Old Men, and it’s interesting to see the way they’re taking up their next film – Hail, Caesar!
Part comedy, part drama, and part musical, Hail, Caesar! is set in the 1950s and follows a Hollywood fixer as they try to keep the studio’s huge amount of stars in line. The all-star cast is comprised of Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, George Clooney, and Jonah Hill… just to name a few. This one’s certainly different to what the Coen’s have been known for previously, but it’s one I’m really looking forward to checking out.

TV Premiere Schedule
This one’s an obvious one. As will be a recognisable name in April’s edition of this feature. I’ve been following The Walking Dead since Season 2, and while I’ve not been incredibly fond of the stop-start formula and flashback episodes that seem to plague this series, I’m still very keen to see what happens next.
We’ve come close to seeing a few notable characters die – especially this season – and I’m going to expect at least one will be gone by the end of the series’ sixth season. Things are really going down now in The Walking Dead – characters are turning on each other, and I can already see the group’s plan going pear-shaped within the first two minutes of the episode airing. The trailer also mentions a very prominent villain, and if the crew follow the show’s source material – thing’s are going to get very, very interesting.
Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, the eight-part Hulu mini-series stars James Franco, Lucy Fry, and Josh Duhamel, as Franco finds himself traveling back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Of course, problems arise, and the past itself starts pushing back as it doesn’t want to be changed.
I haven’t read 11.22.63 but I’ve heard great things about King’s mystery thriller, as well as being quite keen to see how Franco goes in such a serious role. This one’s going to be something I’ll be following fairly feverishly each week, because honestly – Stephen King, JJ Abrams, and James Franco sounds like a pretty killer combo for me.
