Series 1: Love Decks def. JAM Gaming
Result: 3-1

Love Decks impressed in their sole outing this weekend, claiming a big 3-1 series win over JAM Gaming, who are struggling to find form. The first three games were tight and tense, only being decided by a single goal. After Love Decks took Games 1 and 2, a good reply from JAM put them back in with a hope of claiming the win, only to be trounced 4-0 in Game 4 — marking a fantastic win for Love Decks, and taking them up to fifth.

Series 2: Tainted Minds def. Legs Are Silly
Result: 3-1

A result most people expected, newcomers Legs Are Silly struggled to contain the pressure Tainted Minds applied on them and capitulated after a strong opening showing across the first two games. Though the team won the first game in a close contest, Tainted Minds managed to recoup themselves and win in convincing fashion in the final two matches after a solid 1-0 win in Game 2.

Series 3: Chiefs ESC def. Legacy Esports
Result: 3-1

In what was the game of the day, Chiefs were just too good for a very, very solid side in Legacy Esports. Games 1, 2, and 4 were decided by just a single goal — a good indicator of how well matched both of these sides are. Legacy will feel hard done by after losing out, though they put up more than an excellent showing against the region’s best Rocket League side. Chiefs were just too strong here!

Series 4: Retirement Home def. Dark Sided
Result: 3-1

The biggest surprise of League Play this weekend, Retirement Home managed to oust Dark Sided in fairly convincing fashion in the final series of the day. The side, who’s performances of late haven’t been excellent by any means, looked in a different shape today, making better plays and scoring some fantastic goals to put Dark Sided to the sword. A 5-1 win to Dark Sided in Game 2 wasn’t enough to deter Retirement Home from taking a huge win off one of the competition favourites, and will do wonders for their confidence. Well played!

Final Thoughts

3-1 series scorelines seemed to be the theme of this weekend’s shortened League Play in Throwdown’s OCE Championship. That said, we saw some fantastic Rocket League over the day and witnessed a fairly big upset in Retirement Home taking out Dark Sided. With Chiefs the only team now undefeated, it’ll be interesting to see how the other sides respond!
