Previously announced at TwitchCon in 2015, Twitch has been working on a full HTML5 video player for its service scheduled to release last quarter in Q2 2016.

Today, Twitch has announced that it’s been taking longer than expected but they’re rolling out beta tests for the HTML5 video player this month. The beta will first be open to Turbo subscribers and gradually expand in the coming months.

“The focus of this beta will be on identifying breaking points and areas for improvement. There are still several systems, including ad support, that are not quite ready for a full release, so we are starting the beta with users who do not see ads site-wide.”
