There’s been lots of news surrounding Microsoft blocking pirated software on Windows 10 after a new EULA was revealed showcasing this statement:

“We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices. You may also be required to update the software to continue using the Services. Such updates are subject to these Terms unless other terms accompany the updates, in which case, those other terms apply.”

However according to KnowTechnie, this statement was derived from the Services segment in the EULA (End User Licence Agreement) reflecting that Microsoft will only block applications that use it’s services like Xbox Live. Like many pirates out there, they know this is the case when pirating a game – they can’t use it directly with online services. For example, pirating a PC game and trying to utilise Steam features with it. Come on.

So no, Microsoft is not scanning your computers for pirated software… but this doesn’t mean you should pirate video games. Pirating is bad mmmkay?
